Introducing Concord Chiropractor Dr. David Abblett
I suffered severe migraine headaches after a fall as a teenager and no doctors could find a way to help. When I finally found a Chiropractor who helped me, I married his daughter!
In the early 1960's I had been suffering from debilitating migraine headaches after a type of whiplash injury from a fall. I also had severe ear infections. At an age when my life should have been full of fun and excitement, I was struck down by my illnesses. Sometimes, my headaches were so severe, I was unable to move, talk, open my eyes or do any normal activities. I had nausea, vomiting and uncontrollable shaking. My parents had tried every type of treatment imaginable; drugs, hospitalization, neurological exams, but nobody could help. The medications had made me numb to life and turned me into a "zombie". I knew I couldn't continue living like that.
After watching me suffer, my girlfriend suggested that I seek treatment from her father, a Chiropractor. After only a few chiropractic adjustments, my headaches were cured and I started the first of many long conversations with him about how chiropractic worked. These conversations led to my decision to become a Doctor of Chiropractic myself, and after about 7 years, I asked his daughter to marry me in 1970. Today, she manages the business end of my practice and we enjoy working together every day.
I studied Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic, both in Davenport, Iowa and in Santa Clara, California. I graduated in 1982 after a few years delay, serving in the US Navy as a Deep Sea Diver on a Submarine Rescue ship. I served a two year internship with my father-in-law, Dr. Irvin Lathrop, who had studied directly under Dr. Clarence Gonstead. I have become a nationally recognized expert in the Gonstead system and regularly attend Gonstead continuing education seminars to keep up to date on the latest developments. My practice is also a teaching clinic where many students and even practicing doctors come to learn more about the Gonstead System.
My wife, Terry, and I enjoy running an "old-fashioned" type practice without interference from any insurance companies or outside influences. We provide a friendly, caring atmosphere for our patients which makes them feel like family. We believe in giving our patients the information to make their own decisions about the type of results they desire. I listen to them and then design a treatment plan to make those results possible. The Gonstead System is unique because it is thorough, complete and specific in both analyzing and treating the spine. I will address your entire spine when evaluating for the presence of vertebral subluxations (spinal misalignments producing nerve interference or irritation) which causes ill health.
My patients always say, "You do everything!" That's just about right. My first love (after my wife and family, of course) is surfing. I love any kind of watersport, windsurfing, swimming, waterskiing, kite surfing, jet skiing, whitewater kayaking, sailing, scuba diving. I also love snow skiing on a monoski, snowboarding, riding a dirtbike, playing paintball, backpacking and fishing.
My wife, Terry, and I have a daughter, Heidi, who is married, with two absolutely adorable sons; and a son, Toby, who is also married but with only a pug puppy at the moment. We live on the Napa River which gives us the direct access to the water sports which we all love so much.
My activities require that I be in absolute top shape to perform the way I desire. I am extremely careful about what fuel I put into my body to give me that enhanced performance. I eat only natural, organic foods that have not been refined. I use natural vitamin supplements and never put any chemicals into my body, in the form of prescription or over-the-counter drugs. I believe in the body's innate ability to heal itself and receive regular Chiropractic adjustments to allow that to happen. I get plenty of sleep, do not smoke, do not drink alcohol and do not eat any junk foods. Most people never even guess I'm in my late 50's when they see me and find out about all the activities I do.
Thanks for visiting our site and for caring enough about your health to research the kind of doctor you can trust. I am always available for consultation at no charge to answer any questions. Because the Gonstead system is so successful and my patients get well so soon, there is always room for new patients in my practice.
